Medical Lingo

Along with Modern Healthcare, HealthLeaders, The Wall Street Journal and The Nashville Post, one of the must-read publications around The Horse Barn is The Onion, which features satirical articles on current events—both real and imagined. A recent headline: “Hospital Paperwork Reduces Man's Reading Comprehension To First-Grade Level .”

How true is that! Do your patients need a degree from M.I.T. to understand their bills? Do you talk to them in undecipherable medical lingo? Does the paperwork you ask them to read or fill out make them sicker than when they walked in your door? Do you hate the IRS and tax forms? Do you see the connection?

Why do we do this to our customers? Why not try a little healthcare form reform?

Just a little thought for the day…
